Seattle Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf Again Fined For Unnecessary Roughness
In what is becoming a weekly trend, Seattle Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf picked up yet another fine on Saturday, per NFL Network.
This time, Metcalf's fine stems from an unnecessary roughness penalty during Sunday's win over the Carolina Panthers. Specifically, Metcalf drew a flag in the third quarter for an illegal blindside block, negating a five-yard gain by running back Kenneth Walker III. For the infraction, Metcalf picked up a hefty fine of $16,391.
In just the first three weeks of the season, Metcalf has already picked up four separate fines from the league. Two of them came from the Seahawks' Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, when Metcalf laid a late hit on cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon and then drew a taunting penalty immediately after. Those two infractions resulted in separate fines of $10,927 for a total of $21,854.
Then during Week 2's overtime win against the Detroit Lions, Metcalf picked up a flag for a face mask on safety Kerby Joseph, resulting in another fine of $10,927. All together, Metcalf has lost a total of $49,172 in fines this season.
Metcalf has had a problem with such penalties throughout his career, but he has stated his desire to cut down on them recently.
"That's between me and Pete (Carroll), but the gist of the message was that I'm a target now I've got to carry myself as such and not continue to hurt the team. That's what I'm going to do," Metcalf said.
Metcalf wasn't the only Seahawk to pick up an unnecessary roughness fine this week, as two others did as well. Safety Julian Love was fined $21,833, the most of the three Seahawks, for a roughing the passer call early in the first quarter. Fellow safety Tees Tabor also picked up a $6,000 fine for an infraction late in the fourth quarter.
Metcalf and the Seahawks will look to avoid any further fines when they visit the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
