Seahawks Targeting QB at No. 5? Draft 'Chatter' Revealing Clues

The Seattle Seahawks have long thought to be in for a defender - potentially Jalen Carter - with the pick No. 5 in the NFL Draft but talk in league circles might suggest otherwise.
In this story:

The Seattle Seahawks hold two first-round selections in the upcoming NFL Draft (No. 5 & No. 20), but just which way the Seahawks will go is up for debate.

There has been serious momentum for Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter to be taken by them at No. 5.

But...

According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, Seattle could be going in a completely different direction.

Citing "chatter in league circles," Florio stated that Seattle could target Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 5 pick.

"How about this one? There’s chatter in league circles that the Seahawks could take Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson with the fifth overall pick in the draft," Florio wrote. "It would be a surprise, to say the least. But some believe the Seahawks will take Richardson at No. 5, if he’s there."

Now, after all the mock drafts and rumors, it would be a shock if Seattle chose a quarterback with its first pick. There is likely to be at least one quarterback on the board still at number five since the Arizona Cardinals aren't likely to select one, and rumors have speculated that the Houston Texans might not either.

With four of the top quarterbacks being Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis, there is a good chance when it is Seattle's time to hand in its draft card, at least one quarterback will be on the board.

Will they take a quarterback like Richardson?

Having an out in Geno Smith's three-year contract after next season makes taking a quarterback in this year's draft plausible. Let the rookie sit for a year, learn the offense, scheme, and players before cutting ties with Smith and handing the keys to a second-year quarterback.

Now, this is all pure speculation, as we know how often things can change in the lead-up to the draft. But which way the Seahawks go with their first selection just got a whole lot more interesting.
