Drew Lock made his way to the Seattle Seahawks via the blockbuster trade that sent Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos last March before backing-up Geno Smith this past season.

The Seattle Seahawks have officially re-signed quarterback Drew Lock, the team announced Monday. NFL Network first reported the news on Thursday. The move now "locks" Lock in as Geno Smith's backup for another season.

The one-year deal is worth a base of $4 million, but has incentives that can bring that total up to $7.5 million. He was available to sign elsewhere as an unrestricted free agent.

Lock made his way to Seattle via the blockbuster trade that sent Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos last March. He was seen as a real contender to take the QB1 role ahead of an offseason position battle with Smith.

The competition went all the way to the preseason, but Lock caught COVID ahead of the second exhibition game, which severely hurt his chances. Smith was likely already the favorite to land the starting job, but Lock's absence and Smith's efficient play all but sealed the deal.

Safe to say the Seahawks liked how things worked out, as Smith earned his first Pro Bowl nod, set multiple franchise single-season passing records, won the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year and led Seattle on an unexpected run to the postseason.

In his career, Lock has appeared in 24 games with 21 starts. He's gone 421 of 710 passing for 4,740 yards, 25 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
