Seahawks Select WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba at No. 20 Pick in NFL Draft
After adding arguably the best corner in the draft in Devon Witherspoon with the No. 5 overall pick, the Seattle Seahawks focused on the other side of the ball with pick No. 20, drafting receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba out of Ohio State.
Smith-Njigba is the first receiver off the board in the draft and will form an elite receiver trio with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett for quarterback Geno Smith to work with.
There is a lot to like about Smith-Njigba, who is considered by some the best receiver prospect in this draft class.
"Though he was buried behind two 2022 first-round draft selections in the 2021 season, Jaxon Smith-Njigba showed excellent agility and route running to go with above-average lateral burst and work after the catch," SI Draft Bible wrote about Smith-Njigba.
"While his overall speed, play strength, and hands do not move the needle, Ohio State’s new top receiver is a high-floor player who can start early in the NFL."
It has been a productive first round for the Seahawks as they landed two prospects who have the potential to come in and start right away, joining a talented young core in Seattle.
The Seahawks are on the clock again with pick No. 37 in the second round.
