Seahawks Ex Coach Sean Desai Fired By Eagles After One Season
Former Seattle Seahawks assistant coach Sean Desai got his first chance at being an NFL defensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles this season, but unfortunately, it did not go as he would've hoped.
Desai's Eagles started the season well enough, as the defending NFC Champions jumped out to a 10-1 record and held the top seed in the conference. The problems began to really show after back-to-back blowout losses against the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, in which Desai's defense allowed 75 points across both games.
As a result, the Eagles stripped Desai of his play-calling duties ahead of their next game against the Seahawks, instead giving the responsibility to Matt Patricia.
That decision predictably turned out to be a terrible one, as the Eagles completely collapsed and lost badly to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round. The Eagles' defense also went from bad to worse, finishing 30th in points allowed and 26th in yards allowed.
As soon as the dust settled, calls for the jobs of both Desai and Patricia grew even louder.
Philadelphia fans got their wish on Sunday, as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Eagles have let Desai go. Patricia is also not expected to be back, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Desai, 40, served as the Seahawks' associate head coach and a defensive assistant for the 2022 season. He was the defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears the year before, but was not retained when the team fired coach Matt Nagy.

Despite a poor showing in Philadelphia, Desai is still young and has 17 years of coaching experience, so he could easily land on his feet with another job soon.
