Is Seahawks QB Geno Smith Seattle's 'Biggest Question' After OTAs?

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is coming off a career-best year and is looking to prove that it wasn't just a fluke.
In this story:

The Seattle Seahawks kicked off their mandatory minicamp earlier than most teams around the league on Wednesday. The sessions are one of the final steps in the ramp-up to training camp, which starts in late July. But before that, they'll have to finish the three days of minicamp before the final three days of OTAs from June 12-14.

For Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, this offseason has been much different than any other. He is the fully-entrenched starting quarterback and doesn't have to look over his shoulder in worry about being replaced. It is a status that was earned by his play last season.

The West Virginia product had a career year, throwing for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions en route to an unexpected playoff appearance. Yet, there are still those that doubt him. Bleacher Report has recently named Smith the Seahawks' biggest question following OTAs.

The article credits Smith for playing at a high-level last season and acknowledges that he wasn't just checking the ball down and being a "game manager."

"According to Next Gen Stats, [Smith] was the best deep-ball thrower in the league last season," B/R writes. "Smith was 24-of-51 for 719 yards and 13 touchdowns on throws with more than 20 air yards."

But...

"It's impressive, but it can also be a fickle skill," Bleacher Report adds. "Last year's list of the top deep ball passers included Josh Allen at No. 1 and Matt Ryan at No. 2. This year, Allen finished 10th and Matt Ryan, well, he didn't make the cut."

As this statistic implies, the article's reasoning for Smith being labeled a question is that one could be led to believe 2022 was a fluke of a season. Seahawk fans will likely disagree with that, but they can feel right back at home because these notions of a one-off means Seattle is being overlooked like they were a season ago.

Having already shushing the doubters who didn't write back to, the 32-year-old will still have a lot to prove in his 10th year in the league.
