Seattle Seahawks’ Geno Smith Injury Update: Could the San Francisco 49ers Get Beat by QB Drew Lock on Thanksgiving?

The Seattle Seahawks are expressing optimism that quarterback Geno Smith - who is dealing with an arm injury - will be able to recover in time for Thursday’s game against San Francisco.

But “time” is an issue. And so is “just in case,” as the smart money says that coach Pete Carroll’s bunch - no offense to Drew Lock - will have a steep uphill battle dealing with their NFC West rivals without the centerpiece of their offense.

“They're doing everything they can to work through that (injury),” Carroll said on Monday of Geno and the team’s medical and training staff. “We'll see how it goes.”

A challenge: this NFL Week 12 game is a Thanksgiving night special, a Thursday home showdown that doesn’t allow for the usual rest and recovery time following the 17-16 loss to the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday.

Smith was injured in the second half on a hit from Rams star Aaron Donald, creating a contusion near Smith’s elbow.

The Seahawks say there is no structural damage here. But they are also not planning on

Smith doing much of anything in terms of participation in practice … maybe leading right up to Thursday.

The hope is that Smith will be able to take part in practice on Wednesday. … and that might calm any concerns that Seattle’s chances are greatly lessened with backup Drew Lock at QB against a 49ers defense that is among the NFL’s best.

Geno Smith Suffers Mic 'Outage' in Closing Moments vs. Rams

“We’ll see how (Smith) responds the next couple of days, but it was a good sign that he was functional and could throw the football all right,” Carroll said of the fact that Smith re-entered the Rams game late after Lock took a turn.

The 6-4 Seahawks have bounced around as underdogs here, with some at different times having 7-3 San Francisco as just a 2.5-point favorite … surely a nod to the belief that Geno is playing.

What would happen to the point spread if Geno can’t go? What would be Seattle’s chances with Lock at QB? The Seahawks are hoping they don’t have to find out.
