Seahawks GM John Schneider Ready for 'Real Deal' vs. Rams
As the Seattle Seahawks embark on a new season - a season of hope and anticipation - general manager John Schneider is paying close attention to the roster, closer attention than even fans and coaches do this time of year. After all, he's the architect of what they're building in Seattle.
After a surprisingly successful campaign last year that saw the team make the postseason behind quarterback Geno Smith's career year, Schneider is ready for another run.
“Excited to get going. The real deal this week," Schneider said. "Kind of fun with the coaches this morning, and we had a tryout. It feels like a regular week. Awesome stuff. Ready to get going. To quote my good friend, Andy Reid, ‘The time is yours.’"
After a successful training camp and putting together a roster that he thinks can contend for the West title, Schneider is optimistic.
"We’ve been talking the last month, now having the 90 players and having 69 players and what that looks like. It’s a game of attrition when you’re talking about November, December, and January. So, really trying to extenuate all of the guys’ strengths and have the coaches feel really good about their development with those players and being able to concentrate on a development plan for the practice squad.
"It’s really not just 69 (players) we average about 120 transactions a year, so there are guys constantly coming through this building. We’ve talked about this before, and we want to be a championship-level team when we get to the latter part of the season."
The Seahawks host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at Lumen Field. Kickoff is set for 1:25 p.m.
