Seahawks 'On-The-Rise Talent' a Selling Point for New Head Coach?

The Seattle Seahawks loom as one of the most attractive options for a head coach, with their young talented roster being a big reason why.

The Seattle Seahawks' search for Pete Carroll's successor continues with the next round of interviews about to begin.

The Seahawks are evaluating multiple options, but what are the coaching candidates themselves looking at in Seattle? Is there something that the organization has that might entice them to take the job over others?

ESPN thinks so. Its listed the young, talented roster as a big plus for landing the head coaching job in Seattle.

"The Seahawks have arguably the best roster of any of the eight teams with vacancies at head coach, with on-the-rise young players such as Devon Witherspoon, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Boye Mafe and Kenneth Walker III," ESPN wrote. "Receiver DK Metcalf, who just finished his fifth season, is still only 26. They've also got a world-class practice facility and perhaps the loudest stadium in the NFL."

Is ESPN right? There's a case to be made.

Devon Witherspoon (Pro Bowler) and Jaxon Smith-Njigba (63 rec, 628 yards, 4 TDs) were both wrapped up their rookie seasons and showed impressive ability throughout the year after being first-round picks in 2023. After another preseason is under their belts, one can only imagine the "second-year leap" the duo could make.

Linebacker Boye Mafe had a superb season in just his second year. This time, the “leap" was evident. He led the Seahawks in sacks (9.0) and quarterback hits (11) while having the second-most tackles for loss (nine).

Kenneth Walker in his second season again showed his prowess running the football. Although he didn't match his stats from his rookie campaign (905 rushing yards, 8 TDs), Walker could explode again in his third year if the Seahawks can get the offensive line sorted out.

Then there's D.K. Metcalf. He led the Seahawks in yards (1,114) and touchdowns (eight) and was second in receptions and targets. It was also the third time in four seasons that he surpassed the 1,000-yard mark.

There are centerpieces for the incoming head coach to work with. And when looking at the other coaching vacancies, maybe the Seahawks are the most attractive option due to their young talent.
