Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba: 'Immediate Success?'

The Seattle Seahawks selected Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the No. 20 pick in the draft, and many have the Ohio State star earmarked for success in his rookie season.
In this story:

The Seattle Seahawks offense last season was good value, with Geno Smith, Kenneth Walker, D.K. Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett leading the way, but they added another weapon in Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

With the former Ohio State Buckeye only managing three games last season (managed 1,606 yards in 2021), many are bullish on what he can do at NFL level.

Already with two accomplished receivers in Metcalf and Lockett, CBS Sports thinks that the addition of Smith-Njigba can help take this Seattle offense to even greater heights and has named him as the team's "breakout" candidate for this season.

"We're going with JSN, who should settle in immediately as the slot threat this offense needs to take things to the next level," CBS Sports writes. "His ability to work short and intermediate areas of the field and snap off routes at a moment's notice makes him an excellent complement to the two incumbent wideouts, and he should be an immediate success."

Both Lockett and Metcalf were 1,000-yard receivers last season, and Walker surpassed the 1,000 rushing-yard mark as well. Now we add in a receiver who creates havoc in the slot, and suddenly, Smith has a genuine three-headed monster to utilize.

For many, the one area that the Seahawks lacked last season was production out of the slot ... that's where JSN comes in.

After Lockett and Metcalf, the next best offensive weapon was tight end Noah Fant, who managed just 468 yards.

Now with Smith-Njigba to add yet another element to Shane Waldron's offense and with the natural progression of the roster, it is easy to see why many think Seattle can not only challenge the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC West but also could have a tilt at the NFC.

The Seahawks ranked ninth in the NFL for points scored last season (23.9), and now, with the addition of Smith-Njigba, many expect the offense to take a step forward again.

Will Smith-Njigba be an immediate success? He is in the right environment to do so.
