Seahawks Jaxon Smith-Njigba IN vs. Rams: ‘Remarkable!’ Says Pete Carroll

Seattle Seahawks rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba had preseason wrist surgery, which previously left his status for Week 1 vs. the Los Angeles Rams in doubt.

Seattle Seahawks rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a nice start to life as an NFL player. He showed out during training camp, and when preseason games came around, he was as good as advertised.

But a preseason wrist injury that required surgery left him in some doubt for the Seahawks' Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

However, for any Seattle fans who were sweating over Smith-Njigba's health, you can now breathe easy. Coach Pete Carroll gave an update on how his receiver is progressing from his injury.

“Quite well," Carroll said on Smith-Njigba's going in his recovery. "He hasn't said a peep about it. Not even nothing. He's fine. It's been a remarkable mentality that he's brought to it and it's better than most guys that you see and he's not hesitating to do everything throughout the game plan and the preparation and all of that.”

If Seahawks fans needed more confirmation that Smith-Njigba would suit up vs. the Rams, Carroll was definitive in his response when asked if the first-round pick would take his place at receiver.

 “Yes,” Carroll said.

Many are bullish on what the Seahawks could potentially do this season, and with an offense that was ranked top-10 for points scored last season, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has two more weapons in Smith-Njigba and running back Zach Charbonnet to weave into the scheme.

Defensively, several additions highlighted by returning great Bobby Wagner look to sure up what was a poor unit at times last season.

There is a positive vibe around the Seahawks right now, and some feel they can unseat the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC West title. Doing that will require the team to stack the wins consistently, and having Smith-Njigba alongside Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf means Geno Smith has a true three-headed monster at his disposal while trying to do so.

Sunday can't come quick enough and Seahawks fans will now get their first glimpse of Smith-Njigba once real NFL action gets going.
