Even without Cooper Kupp, the Los Angeles Rams came out looking confident in Sunday's season opener against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.

But the Seahawks responded in a big way in the second quarter thanks to the connection of Geno Smith and DK Metcalf.

After some wheeling and dealing from Smith along with a 13-yard run from running back Kenneth Walker III on Seattle's second drive, the Seahawks found themselves set up in the red zone and capitalized on the scoring opportunity.

Matched up with second-year cornerback Derion Kendrick, Metcalf shook the young defender out of his shoes with a filthy route to get free for an easy 10-yard touchdown. Seattle took a 10-7 lead as a result.

Metcalf has made it clear that the communication between him, Smith and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has been great during the offseason.

"Our communication has gotten a lot better. From Shane to Geno from Geno to me, me to Shane, everybody around the offense just communicates better," Metcalf said. "So, I think our communication took a step forward. It’s going to help us a lot on the field, and when we go to away games or play at home, or some adversity hits, we're not going to blink, we're just going to keep going.”

The communication has improved, but Metcalf's sky-high expectations remain the same.

“I mean, just to be the best in the world," Metcalf said. "That's always everybody's goal at the beginning of the season. Then, we work back from there, but just starting out, just trying to be the best offense, running, passing the ball, being the best efficient offense and just putting up the most points, I think that's the best way I can describe it."

The Seahawks lead L.A. 13-7 as the first half winds down.
