The end of the NFL's offseason is not going as former Seattle Seahawks receiver Marquise Goodwin planned. Now a member of the Cleveland Browns after signing with them in free agency, the former Texas Longhorns standout will miss the start of training camp due to a potentially severe medical issue.

The Browns announced on Friday via their team website that Goodwin will open training camp on the non-football illness list due to blood clot sin his legs and lungs. It is a very unfortunate start to his career in Cleveland, yet he is lucky that the clots were caught because it could've had life-ending consequences if they went undetected.

“It was really alarming at first because I’ve experienced injury throughout my career, but it’s never been anything like this that could turn into something detrimental if it’s not taken care of,” Goodwin said. “It was frightening at first, but now I’m at ease with it. I’ve prayed and just given it over to God. It’s out of my control, and the only thing I can control is my effort and attitude and how I approach each day moving forward.”

Goodwin spent just one season in Seattle, playing in 13 games last fall for the Seahawks before ending the year on the injury reserve. Even at age 32, Goodwin showed flashes of the ability to be a viable contributor on a playoff team, as he functioned essentially as the No. 3 receiver for Seattle. Goodwin finished last season with 27 receptions for 387 yards and four touchdowns, his best numbers since 2018 when he was with the San Francisco 49ers.

After not being brought back by Seattle before the expiration of his contract, he signed with the Browns in April, while the Seahawks ultimately decided to use the No. 20 overall NFL Draft pick on Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba
