Seahawks Ex Marshawn Lynch Gets Trial Date for DUI Case

Former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch will appear in court in November over his DUI arrest last year

Retired Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has received a new trial date stemming from his DUI arrest in Las Vegas last year.

According to The Associated Press, Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge Cedric Kearns scheduled Lynch's two-day trial to begin on Nov. 8.

At around 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 9, 2022, Las Vegas police officers found Lynch asleep at the wheel of a heavily damaged Ford Mustang that had one wheel missing and another "about to fall off." In addition to DUI, Lynch faces charges of failure to maintain a lane and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Prosecutors allege that Lynch's blood alcohol level at the time of his arrest was 0.18, more than twice the legal limit. However, his defense attorneys David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfield deny any wrongdoing by Lynch.

“While [the officer] claims to have ‘observed [sic] a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle, his person, and his breath,’ no evidence proves that Mr. Lynch drank anything or actually operated the vehicle on the night of the encounter,” court documents said, per KLAS.

“There was no evidence that the defendant consumed any alcohol after driving to the location he was found. The defendant was behind the wheel of a damaged vehicle that had left pieces along the roadway and damaged the city’s roadway and curbs. The defendant had the keys to the vehicle that starts by pressing a button, in his pocket.”

According to Nevada law, though, a person in the driver's seat of a vehicle can be deemed to be in physical control of said vehicle.

Lynch played 12 NFL seasons, including seven with the Seahawks, before retiring after the 2019 campaign. He also played four years with the Buffalo Bills and two with the then-Oakland Raiders.
