Who Should Mike Macdonald Hire as Coordinators on Seahawks Staff? - Locked On Podcast
Officially announced as the ninth head coach in franchise history on Wednesday, Mike Macdonald will now shift his priorities towards building a quality coaching staff with the Seattle Seahawks, including hiring an offensive and defensive coordinator.
Being a first-time head coach at any level, Macdonald may be looking for experienced coordinators who have either previously been an NFL head coach or logged several years as a play caller in the league. This could open the doors for former Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman or former Vikings coach Leslie Frazier to be in the mix filling out two critical positions on his new staff.
While experience likely will be valued more than other traits, however, Macdonald also may lean on familiar faces he has worked with during nearly a decade in Baltimore or even his lone season at Michigan. Roman and Frazier would check those boxes, but so would current Ravens quarterback coach Tee Martin and linebackers coach Zach Orr, who would be first-time coordinators at the NFL level if brought to Seattle.
Which options would make the most sense for Macdonald as he constructs his first coaching staff? And which wild cards could be in contention for the coordinator positions? Hosts Corbin Smith and Rob Rang examine three offensive and three defensive coordinator alternatives who would make sense for the Seahawks, including a few outside of the box candidates.
