Closing in on the start of a new era under new coach Mike Macdonald, the NFL announced official offseason dates for the Seattle Seahawks, including a pair of minicamps.

Working diligently to prepare for his first season at the helm after being hired in January to replace long-time coach Pete Carroll, Macdonald will get his first opportunity to conduct on-site meetings with players at the VMAC when the Seahawks open Phase One of the NFL's offseason program on April 8. Under terms of the league's collective bargaining agreement, the first two weeks of the program will be limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and rehabilitation only.

When asked at the NFL annual meetings on Tuesday about what his first message will be for players when they report in less than two weeks, Macdonald said his primary goal is to get everyone in sync right off the bat so that Seattle can get off to a quick start.

"I’m trying to paint a picture of where we’re going and get everybody on the same page so that we can rock and roll. It’s voluntary, so we’re probably not going to have 100 percent. I hope we do but those messages will go throughout," Macdonald said. "But we are trying to build this team together and build a strong foundation so we can take off from there.’’

Following the first two weeks of the offseason program, the Seahawks will transition into Phase Two, which ramps up to on-field workouts with individual and group instruction and drills. Teams will also be allowed to conduct "perfect play drills" and drills with offensive players lining up across from offensive players or defensive players lining up across from defensive players at a walkthrough pace. Live contact and team offense vs. defense drills will not be permitted.

With Seattle being one of eight teams with a new head coach in 2024, per NFL rules, Macdonald will conduct a voluntary minicamp from April 22 to 24 to kick off Phase Two of the offseason program.

Slated to begin Phase Three on May 20, the Seahawks will conduct 10 organized team activity workouts through June 6. Macdonald will also hold a mandatory minicamp from June 11 to June 13 to wrap up the offseason program. No live contact is permitted during this period, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 team drills will be allowed along with individual and group drills.

During the two weeks following the 2024 NFL Draft, which will take place in Detroit from April 25 to April 27, all 32 NFL teams will be allowed to host a three-day rookie minicamp. The league has yet to announce official dates for those minicamps, but in the past, Seattle has hosted draft picks, undrafted rookies, and tryout players on one of the two weekends after the draft.
