Seahawks' Geno Smith 'Absolutely Phenomenal' in QB Rankings
Geno Smith enters this season looking to lead the Seattle Seahawks back to the playoffs for the second straight year. Twelve months ago, a statement like that would have been met with disbelief, as most analysts had low expectations for the Seahawks after trading Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.
Of course, that was not the case, as Smith put together the best season of his career for Seattle. After an MVP-caliber campaign, he is considered one of the top quarterbacks in the NFC - with Fox Sports analyst and former NFL player Emmanuel Acho naming him the fifth-best quarterback in the conference.
"What Geno Smith did with the Seahawks last year, what he did with his completion percentage, at and above 68 percent," Acho said. "How he got the Seahawks to the playoffs when everybody thought they were rebuilding and tanking, absolutely phenomenal."
Smith is coming off a season in which he threw for a career-high 4,282 yards with 30 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions while completing a league-best 69.8 percent of his passes.
Based on the numbers alone, it isn't hard to see why Acho placed Smith in his top five quarterbacks in the conference. Beyond that, though, he provided stability on offense when most assumed the season would be rocky at best.
Now, as he enters this season, he looks to take an even bigger step forward with the Seahawks - leading them not only back into the playoffs, but pursuing a Super Bowl trophy.
