Which Seahawks Position Group Has 'Highest Upside'?
The Seattle Seahawks have quickly built one of the best rosters in the NFL, especially on offense. From quarterback Geno Smith and his receiver trio of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba to running back Kenneth Walker III, the Seahawks' attack is potent.
Our own Corbin K. Smith puts Seattle as the No. 4 team in the NFC. That's evidence of a rapid rebuild.
And with all their talent at the skill position, Seattle Sports' Chris Huard lists the offensive line as the position with the most upside heading into the season.
“If Abe Lucas and Charles Cross take a step, if you get one of these young draft picks to emerge either at center or guard to be a starter like you did last year with so many of those rookies that emerged, that’s the group that’s got the most upside,” Huard said.
The Seahawks landed their franchise tackle duo in the 2022 draft, with Cross and Lucas cementing themselves as anchors of the offensive line in Seattle for the foreseeable future.
Their presence on their respective sides of the line made life much easier for the rest of the offense. Walker burst onto the scene as a fellow rookie, rushing for 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns - with 623 of those yards coming before contact.
Smith also had a career-defining season in his first year starting, kept clean in the pocket while throwing for 4,282 yards with 30 touchdowns and 11 touchdowns while completing a league-high 69.8 percent of his passes.
Simply put, a strong offensive line makes the entire operation run smoother. Knowing that, they further addressed the position group in this year's draft - namely through the addition of Anthony Bradford.
If Bradford pans out into a reliable starter at the right guard position then the Seahawks will have locked down three of the five starting offensive lineman on rookie deals.
There is a ton of talent on offense for the Seahawks, as they are once again poised to field one of the best units in the league. If the offensive line can take another step forward this season, though, then they could easily become an offense no one wants to face. ... and "top-four in the NFC'' might be just the start.
