Seahawks BREAKING: Pete Carroll OUT as Seattle Coach; Will Move to 'Advisor' Role
Despite a 21-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the regular-season finale, the Seattle Seahawks will be forced to watch from home as the playoffs unfold starting next Sunday. ... and now, wherever Pete Carroll watches next year's Seahawks from?
It won't be on the Seattle sideline.
To say this season was a disappointment would be an understatement for a Seahawks team that many felt took strides last offseason in an attempt to gain ground on the NFC West front-running San Francisco 49ers. However, even after two first-round picks, one of which was in the top-five, it seems they've regressed.
This led to the question of what this disappointing season means for Seahawks coach Carroll. Was the 72-year-old's job still safe? Or does the lack of progress mean his seat is getting warm?
"Warm'' is an understatement. On Wednesday, Carroll is out of the job..
This in spite of ...
“I do. I do,” Carroll said when asked earlier this week whether he expects to be the Seahawks coach next season. “At this point, I do.”
Saying "at this point" certainly added to the speculation.
It is hard to deny that since capturing Super Bowl XLVIII, the Seahawks have suffered a slow decline over the last 10 seasons. While Seattle has made the playoffs in seven of those seasons, its only managed to make it past the Wild Card four times, with the last occurrence coming in 2019.
Would Seahawks Really Fire Carroll With Week 18 Loss - Joining Belichick?
Carroll has already cemented his legacy as not only the Seahawks' best coach ever but has essentially reserved a spot for his bust in Canton, Ohio, for whenever he is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Yet, coming off two straight seasons with eight losses and a roster with potential championship pieces, the Seahawks can't hold onto Carroll forever.
And he, as it turned out, cannot hold onto the job forever.
