Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll Reflects During Bye Week: 'Long Way To Go!'

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll offered his thoughts on what he has seen so far after one month of football.
In this story:

Coming into the season, the Seattle Seahawks were thought of as a playoff team, potentially more. Through the first four games of the season, that feels about right.

While performances have been a little clunky, Seattle flexed its muscles in a way many have been waiting to see against the New York Giants in a 24-3 beat down on Monday night.

Now, Pete Carroll's team sits comfortably at 3-1 as they enter their early bye week in Week 5. It is time to take stock of what has happened for Seattle, but for Carroll, that Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Rams still haunts him.

“We screwed up the second half of the first game, I’m never going to forgive myself for that,” Carroll said. “We just didn’t play the second half like all the rest of these halves. This [vs. Giants] is the way we’re supposed to finish, but we just didn’t do it. But, you know, ok, there’s a couple of teams that are four and zero, and it's really close, got a long way to go."

In the opening month, the Seahawks have the sixth-best scoring offense (27.8 points) and 17th-ranked defense (22.8 ppg).

Undoubtedly, there are still areas for improvement that the coaching staff will look at over the bye week, one being the offense's ability to convert third downs.

Currently, the Seahawks are 13 of 45 on third down (28.9 percent), so that will no doubt be a point of emphasis. Aside from that, the Seahawks appear to be in good shape after the first month.

The only blemish on Seattle's season is that opening loss to the Rams, and with that still burning the fire for Carroll, we imagine that the loss will continue to be the motivation that pushes this team forward.

But for now, the Seahawks can relax, reasonably content with their opening month's work.
