Report: Seahawks’ Pete Carroll's Son Contender For Arizona Coaching Job

Pete Carroll is longer the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks but his son could soon be landing a high-profile collegiate coaching job.

As one Carroll's head-coaching career possibly comes to an end, another's could just be getting started.

On Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks stunned the NFL world by announcing that Pete Carroll would not return after 14 seasons at the helm. The 72-year-old Carroll led Seattle to its first, and so far only, Super Bowl title, but now he moves up to an advisor role. While he didn't completely rule out coaching again, it seems like Carroll is off the sidelines for the time being.

Meanwhile, Carroll's eldest son Brennan Carroll, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Arizona Wildcats, has had quite the eventful week himself. On Sunday, Arizona coach Jedd Fisch left to become the new coach of the Washington Huskies, who lost Kalen DeBoer to the Alabama Crimson Tide earlier in the week.

Arizona is now officially the latest high-profile college team looking for a new coach, and according to 247Sports, Brennan is expected to be among the top contenders for the job.

Brennan Carroll, 44, just finished his third season with the Wildcats, leading an offense that finished top-20 nationally in total yards, passing yards and points scored. Arizona has shown remarkable improvement over his time with the program, going from 1-11 in 2021 to 10-3 and finishing the season ranked No. 11 in 2023.

Reportedly, there is a feeling in the program that hiring Carroll’s son could convince some top players to stay, rather than going elsewhere in the transfer portal.

Brennan Carroll previously coached under his father in Seattle, serving as an assistant offensive line coach from 2015 to 2019 and becoming the run game coordinator in 2020. Before jumping to the NFL, he also spent time with the Miami Hurricanes and USC Trojans, also coaching under his father for the latter.

Pete’s younger son, 36-year-old Nate Carroll, is currently a senior offensive assistant for the Seahawks.

It remains to be seen if Brennan Carroll actually gets the Arizona job, but it would be poetic if he gets his first head-coaching gig as his father is hanging up the headset.
