Seahawks Trail Steelers After Back-And-Forth First Half
The Seattle Seahawks appear to be ringing in the new year the only way they know how, with yet another close game.
Seattle, which has been no stranger to tight games for years now, heads into the locker room facing a 17-14 deficit against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at Lumen Field.
For a game featuring two teams with below-average offenses (statistically speaking, anyway), both squads have been able to move the ball quite well. Pittsburgh has the edge with 248 total yards, but Seattle hasn't been bad with 178 yards.
The Steelers got on the board first thanks to an 18-yard run by running back Jaylen Warren near the end of the opening quarter. Just under three minutes later, though, the Seahawks struck back with a 13-yard run by running back Kenneth Walker III.
Then after a Pittsburgh field goal, Seattle put together another solid drive by marching 75 yards in under five minutes. Geno Smith hit Jaxon Smith-Njigba from 12 yards out for the first passing touchdown of the day, which also gave the Seahawks their first lead.
However, the Steelers were able to take the lead back just before halftime, courtesy of a nine-yard rush by running back Najee Harris.
Jamal Adams' Future: Beginning of the End?
Smith completed eight of 11 passes for 120 yards and one touchdown in the first half. Walker had six carries for 45 yards, while receiver D.K. Metcalf had two catches for 54 yards.
Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph, making his second start of the season, completed seven of 11 passes for 111 yards. Warren rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and receiver George Pickens added 52 yards on three receptions.
The Seahawks will get the ball to start the second half.
