Seahawks Post-Combine Mock Draft: Seattle Passes on QB, Makes Risky Pick

Now that the NFL Scouting Combine is over, how could things shake out for the Seattle Seahawks in the draft?
In this story:

The 2023 NFL Scouting Combine officially came to a close on Sunday in Indianapolis, as the top 2023 draft wrapped up another successful showing at the annual event.

The Seattle Seahawks had a watchful eye at the combine, as the team has tons of decisions to make with the No. 5 and No. 20 overall selections in April's draft.

So now that the combine is over, how could things shake out for the Seahawks in the draft? CBS Sports revealed its post-combine mock draft on Sunday and has Seattle making some interesting, yet risky selections.

No. 5 - Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia

Unfortunately, the attention surrounding Carter during the combine wasn't due to his world-class defensive ability.

On Wednesday, Carter turned himself in to Athens, GA police on charges of reckless driving and racing that stemmed from the Jan. 15 deaths of University of Georgia football player Devin Willock and team staff member Chandler LeCroy.

The news broke right before Carter was set to speak to the media at the combine. He released a statement on Twitter:

“It is my intention to return to Athens to answer the misdemeanor charges against me and to make certain that the complete and accurate truth is presented," he wrote. "There is no question in my mind that when all of the facts are known that I will be fully exonerated of any criminal wrongdoing."

There remains countless questions surrounding Carter's off-field issues, but there's no questions regarding his football talent.

At a monstrous 6-3, 300 pounds, Carter was a force to be reckoned with in the SEC. Though the stats don't jump off the board for a guy projected to be a top-five pick, he had an impressive, championship-winning career at Georgia.

Carter finished his collegiate career with 83 total tackles, six sacks, four passes defended, two forced fumble and one touchdown.

No. 20 - O'Cyrus Torrence, OL, Florida

From d-line to o-line, the Seahawks make an intriguing pick by selecting Torrence at No. 20.

Rather than going for a skill player with this pick after selecting Carter in this mock. the Seahawks snag Torrence with the expectation that he'll add to what could be a franchise-defining offensive line alongside talented second-year linemen Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas.

Cross and Lucas, who command both tackle spots, were two of the primary faces from a stellar 2022 Seahawks rookie class. Adding Torrence at offensive guard alongside these two would essentially lock in Seattle's future on the o-line.

Whoever ends up being the quarterback of the future for the Seahawks - whether its Geno Smith or a 2023 draft pick - will have limited reasons to worry with these three young guns paving the way up front.
