Drew Lock, Seahawks Trail Vikings at Halftime in Preseason Opener

Despite a strong showing from the rookie class during Thursday night's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings, the Seattle Seahawks are behind entering the locker room.
In this story:

The Seattle Seahawks are back in business at Lumen Field, with a solid crowd in attendance for the team's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

But at halftime, Seattle finds itself in a hole, as the Vikings will take a 10-7 lead into the locker room after a promising first half.

The Seahawks opted not to play a majority of their starters, with Drew Lock getting the start at quarterback as Geno Smith watched from the sidelines.

Surrounding the fifth-year pro was a rookie-heavy supporting cast - first-round receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and second-round running back Zach Charbonnet were the most prominent figures.

Each of Seattle's highly touted rookie weapons had their moments, with Smith-Njigba leading the team in targets (four) and receptions (three) while finishing second in receiving yards with 25. Undrafted rookie Jake Bobo led Seattle with 29 receiving yards on his lone first half target.

Charbonnet, who figures to play a large part in the Seahawks' running game, had four carries for 15 yards with a long of nine.

As for Lock, it was a solid first half for Seattle's presumed backup, completing 10 of 13 passes for 105 yards and a 12-yard touchdown pass to receiver Easop Winston Jr.

Defensively, second-year cornerback Coby Bryant made multiple nice plays and finished the half with five tackles. Rookie defensive linemen Mike Morris and Derick Hall each had pressures on Vikings backup quarterback Nick Mullens, who played the entirety of the half.

Seattle was led in tackles by linebacker Jon Rhattigan, who had nine stops. Fellow linebacker Devin Bush had six tackles, one of which was for a loss, while second-year edge defender Tyreke Smith also had a tackle for loss.

It was a solid overall showing for the Seahawks' reserves, with the rookie class in particular taking a shining role ... and inspiring confidence there are many more positive plays to be made inside Lumen Field, be it tonight or in the years to come.

The Seahawks will get the ball to start the second half, with an eye towards a quality 30 minutes of evaluation - but a win would certainly be a welcomed bonus.
