Seahawks' Pete Carroll Praises RB Zach Charbonnet: 'Really Physical!'
The Seattle Seahawks got their first glimpse of several rookies during their 24-13 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in their preseason opener at Lumen Field on Thursday night, which included running back Zach Charbonnet.
The UCLA product carried the ball four times for 14 yards and caught two passes for 14 yards during his time on the field. And while numbers weren't jaw-dropping, his most impressive moment occurred on a 2nd and 4, where he received the carry and appeared to be halted by Vikings safety Lewis Cine. Charbonnet utilized his strength to brush off Cine's tackle attempt, knocking him to the ground and gaining additional yards to secure the first down.
While the numbers didn't stand out for Charbonnet in the game, coach Pete Carroll was impressed with the physicality that the running back displayed against the Vikings.
“Looked good, didn’t he?" Carroll said. “He looked really physical. Guys on the sidelines were going crazy for him. He has had a great start with us."
As the Seahawks prepare to host the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 19 followed by a matchup at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 26, the remaining preseason games will be of significant importance for Charbonnet. These matchups offer him a valuable opportunity to further showcase his capabilities as a dependable NFL running back, especially considering the potential increased playing time resulting from the current starter, Kenneth Walker III, dealing with a groin injury.
If Charbonnet can establish himself as a contributor on offense, he will play a pivotal role in the Seahawks' quest to secure a postseason berth for the second consecutive year.
