Seahawks QB Geno Smith Reveals ‘Where His Focus Is’ for Offseason
The Seattle Seahawks saw their season end in bittersweet circumstances as they defeated the Arizona Cardinals 21-20 on Sunday. But due to the Green Bay Packers defeating the Chicago Bears a few minutes before the Seahawks’ win was final, it wasn't enough to punch their playoff ticket.
Now with the regular season done, quarterback Geno Smith can reflect on a season where he didn't quite hit the highs of last year - but things are better in one sense, his future is secure.
Smith entered last offseason with no contract but due to his Pro Bowl efforts, was rewarded with a three-year, $75 million deal that has an out for the 2024 season if Seattle so chooses.
But Smith isn't focused on his job security.

“I never really focus on that," Smith said. "My job as a player is to get better, so that is what I am focused on. Security and all of that, I am secure with myself as a player. I am secure with the type of quarterback that I am. I know that I am a championship quarterback. I know that I am going to continue to lead and continue to be great. I just have to continue to push and get better and help the guys around me get better. That is really where my focus is.”
While Smith does have job security, what his role in the offense is next season could change based on what the Seahawks do draft-wise.
NBC Sports' Peter King has said that the Seahawks could trade up from their No. 16 overall pick to try and land Smith's successor.
With a host of talented quarterbacks expected to go early, the Seahawks will have to do plenty of wheeling and dealing if they are to get as high as they would need to snatch a quarterback.
So while Smith is content with his job security right now, exactly what that "job" looks like come late April could be vastly different.
But either way, Smith will be a Seahawk in 2024, but in what capacity, that remains unknown.
