What Does Sam Howell Bring to Seahawks' QB Room? - Locked On Podcast
Bolstering their quarterback room for the 2024 season, the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders agreed to a pick swap with Sam Howell, a fourth-round pick, and a sixth-round pick coming to the Pacific Northwest in exchange for a third-round pick and fifth-round pick.
Speaking with Dave Wyman and Bob Stelton of Seattle Sports 710 hours after the trade was announced by the Seahawks, general manager John Schneider squashed the idea of Howell competing with Geno Smith for the starting job right away. But after drawing positive grades from their scouts coming out of North Carolina two years ago, he's fired up to add him to the mix and see where he fits next season and potentially beyond.
“Geno is the guy and Sam will be backing him up,” Schneider said. “[Howell] is a competitive guy … I’m sure there’s competition, but as of right now it’s not like we’re signing him to go and compete with Geno to be the starter.”
Offering an instant reaction to the trade between the Commanders and Seahawks, Locked On Seahawks host Corbin Smith and Locked On Commanders host David Harrison discuss Howell's up-and-down 2023 season as the starter in D.C. and whether or not he has the tools to be a long-term starter and potential heir apparent to Smith in Seattle.
Seahawks Take Low-Risk, High-Reward Gamble in Sam Howell Trade
Smith and Harrison also dive into Washington's acquisition of future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner and how the 10-time All-Pro selection will help the Commanders in his 13th NFL season in a jam-packed bonus episode.
