Seattle Seahawks Looking Forward To San Francisco 49ers Rematch Despite Ugly Loss

The Seattle Seahawks may have lost to the San Francisco 49ers in blowout fashion on Thursday, but they know they'll have another shot soon enough.
In this story:

As millions of Americans closed out their Thanksgiving with dessert on Thursday night, the Seattle Seahawks were served a plate of humble pie in a 31-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

In a matchup for NFC West supremacy, at least for the time being, the 49ers completely outmatched their rival under the bright lights. On offense, defense and special teams, it was a night to forget for the team in neon green. With the loss, Seattle is now two games behind San Francisco in the division and now loses the head-to-head tiebreaker.

These teams aren't done with each other yet, though, as they face off again on Dec. 10 in San Francisco. While it may seem like the Seahawks would be dreading that game after the drubbing they just received, they are instead looking forward to the opportunity to settle the score.

"They beat us. Simple as that. Can't make an excuse for if," quarterback Geno Smith told reporters after Thursday's game. "It's football, sports. Sometimes a team comes out and beats you. But the good thing about it is we got another chance to go against these guys in a few weeks. I think everyone has to take that personal. I know I am. We all got to take it personal. Can't keep coming out here and letting them beat us like that."

It goes without saying that beating the 49ers in their own house won't be an easy task. Over the past two seasons, San Francisco is 14-2 at Levi's Stadium (including playoffs) and undefeated against NFC opponents. The 49ers have also won four straight matchups, with none of those game being particularly close.

Even with all that, the upcoming game provides a chance to right those wrongs, no matter how difficult it may be.

"We'll see them in two weeks and we'll go from there," safety Quandre Diggs said. "We need to worry about what we need to do next week and go from there. We need to put the work in, come to work and have an attitude ready to go out and compete and have some pride about ourselves. That's first of all."

The Seahawks' NFC West title hopes took a massive hit with Thursday's loss, with ESPN's Football Power Index now giving them only a 0.7 percent chance to win the division. While winning the next matchup against San Francisco won't change those odds by itself, but it is absolutely a must win if Seattle wants to maintain any slim hope of taking the NFC West crown.
