Seahawks Signing Bobby Wagner? Gauging Cowboys, Bills & Eagles Interest
Linebacker Bobby Wagner’s pals are pushing the idea that the Seattle Seahawks represent “home” for the all-time great.
And now that’s he’s free again after spending a year with the reigning champion Los Angeles Rams, the Seahawks - who last year surprised the NFL by being better than the Rams and earning a playoff berth - are surely in play.
But in addition to the much-publicized idea of Wags joining old coach Dan Quinn’s Dallas Cowboys defense, all involved might have other ideas.
Like a Buffalo Bills idea.
And a Philadelphia Eagles idea.
Wagner put up good All-Pro numbers again last season (totaling a career-high six sacks even as he approaches age 33.
One NFL team source tells us that Wagner “can’t run” as he once did. Still, this is a player who can still be an impact player - and who knows the Super Bowl ropes, as pal K.J. Wright recently told us.
"Bobby will make his teammates better,'' Wright told SeahawksSI.com in an exclusive interview. "Wherever he goes, he will help take that organization to a new level.''
So what matters now? “Home”? Money? Super Bowl contention?
The media is connecting Wagner with Philadelphia, and as the Eagles are the reigning NFC champs, they qualify in the “contention” department.
Same with the Bills, winners of the AFC East for three straight years.
Wagner is such a known commodity that while he may not have a wide-berth pick of destinations, he’s earned the right to do some of this on his own timetable.
The Seahawks have been open about the need to fortify the front seven in terms of run-stopping. That’s one of the many attractions for Seattle here … as Bobby Wagner and his suitors work to figure out the strongest two-way attraction.
