Seahawks Sign RB SaRodorick Thompson in Wake of Injuries
With running backs Zach Charbonnet and Kenneth Walker III both going down due to injuries in training camp, the Seattle Seahawks are making moves to give themselves more depth in the backfield as the preseason approaches.
The Seahawks announced Monday that they have signed former Texas Tech Red Raiders and current rookie SaRodorick Thompson. Seattle has waived safety Morell Osling and linebacker Cam Bright, both of whom signed as undrafted free agents with the team.
Thompson was originally signed as an UDFA by the New Orleans Saints, but now instead has a chance to compete for backup reps with the Seahawks, who also recently signed undrafted rookie running back and former Washington Husky, Wayne Taulapapa.
In five seasons with the Red Raiders, Thompson posted 2,664 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns while adding 91 catches for 520 receiving yards and another score.
If the season started tomorrow, DeeJay Dallas would likely be the starting running back in Seattle with rookie Kenny McIntosh behind him. Of course, nothing has indicated that the injuries to Walker III and Charbonnet are serious. Coach Pete Carroll said the team is being "cautious," which gives the impression that the pair could sit on the sidelines most of the time until the real football rolls around.
But until then, Thompson will get some valuable reps in training camp with hopes of making the 53-man roster.
