Metcalf, Lockett & More: WRs Ranked Seahawks 'Strongest' Unit

The Seattle Seahawks had a playoff-caliber group last season and have added to it via free agency and the draft, with the wide receivers room named the roster's best unit.
In this story:

After a playoff appearance last year, the Seattle Seahawks' roster has, for some, improved with the rookie additions of receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and cornerback Devon Witherspoon, along with the (re)arrival to the defensive front from Dre'Mont Jones, Devin Bush and Bobby Wagner.

But what does ESPN think? The site composed a list of the best NFL rosters, with Seattle being ranked 12th (how fitting). In addition, ESPN thinks the strongest unit for coach Pete Carroll's team is the receiver room.

"Seattle's roster has several elite units, but wideout gets the nod," ESPN writes. "DK Metcalf (top-10 in receiving yards and TDs over the last three seasons) and Tyler Lockett (1,000-plus yards and eight-plus TDs in five straight seasons) form an elite duo. The unit got even better when Seattle spent its first-round pick in April's draft on Jaxon Smith-Njigba. This could be the league's best trio by next season's end."

We agree that the offense, which was ranked ninth last season with 23.9 points per game, has gotten a serious upgrade in Smith-Njigba.

The former Ohio State Buckeye could only manage to play in three games last season, but the year prior had 1,606 yards and nine touchdowns on 95 receptions. Smith-Njigba could form a devastating trio with Metcalf and Lockett.

Both Metcalf and Lockett had over 1,000 yards receiver last season, and adding Smith-Njigba to the offense could see them get more favorable looks.

Seattle's roster is reasonably well-rounded. But with the attacking weapons at quarterback Geno Smith's disposal and the potential it has going forward means the receiving corps could indeed be the Seahawks' best unit entering next season.
