Seahawks CB Tariq Woolen Named to NFL All-Under-25 Team
Cornerback is widely seen as one of the hardest positions to transition at in the NFL. Of course, that is unless you're Seattle Seahawks' rookie cornerback Tariq Woolen, who dominated offenses during his rookie year last season.
Woolen's dominance was far from unnoticed, earning him Pro Bowl honors as a rookie. Now, as he enters his second season, he was named to NFL.com's All-Under 25 team, where they mentioned Woolen's slide into the later rounds of the draft.
"Woolen burst onto the scene at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, where he ran a blazing-fast 4.26-second 40-yard dash, which is tied for the fourth-fastest time at the event since 2003. Still, that wasn't enough to rocket him up draft boards last year," NFL.com writes.
Instead of going in the first or second round, Woolen slid all the way into the fifth - where the Seahawks wasted no time scooping up the Pro Bowl cornerback and adding him to their defense.
"Pete Carroll's Seahawks picked him in the fifth round and reaped the benefits," NFL.com writes. "Woolen received a full workload as a rookie, starting every game, and made a name for himself by tying for the league lead in interceptions with six."
After landing with the Seahawks, Woolen recorded 63 tackles as a rookie. Most impressive, though, was his ballhawking ability, which he put on full display with six interceptions. This tied for the most in the league last season.
While it is hard to imagine Woolen getting even better than he already is, he aims to take another step forward in 2023. If he does that, look out for the Seahawks to field one of the NFL's best secondaries as a result.
