The Seattle Seahawks are gearing up for the official reveal of their long-awaited throwback uniforms on Wednesday.

Nostalgia is taking a hold across the NFL right now, and the Seattle Seahawks are one of the latest teams to join the craze.

The Seahawks have been teasing the return of their vintage royal blue jerseys for months, with an official announcement coming during their Week 12 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Fans won't have to wait much longer to see the jerseys in full, as the Seahawks set the official reveal for Wednesday morning. The team has also updated its social media presence to feature the original throwback logo.

However, fans may see a sneak peak ahead of the official reveal thanks to safety Quandre Diggs. Diggs has been among the most vocal Seahawks in promoting the upcoming throwbacks, and the safety hinted at an exclusive look on Tuesday.

The Seahawks donned their iconic royal blue jerseys from their inaugural season in 1976 until 2001, with franchise icons such as receiver Steve Largent and safety Kenny Easley wearing them proudly. They then changed their colors to a navy blue scheme in 2002, coinciding with their move to the NFC and the NFL's move to Reebok as its official uniform provider. Most recently, they updated their jerseys to the current design in 2012, when Nike took over making NFL uniforms.

As previously mentioned, the Seahawks are far from the only team to embrace their past aesthetics recently. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who entered the league alongside Seattle in 1976, unveiled their orange "creamsicle" throwback uniforms last week. The Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans are also set to unveil throwback uniforms soon, with the latter's alluding to their days as the Houston Oilers. Other teams, such as the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots, also debuted updated versions of their classic looks last season.

The reason for the recent throwback craze stems from a recent rule change. From 2013 to 2021, teams were only permitted to wear one helmet color for the entire season, which the NFL claimed was due to safety. With the league rescinding the rule in 2021, throwback jerseys such as Seattle's can return in their full glory.

The Seahawks previously announced that they would wear their throwback threads for their Week 8 game against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 29. When that game comes around, it will be the first time the Seahawks have worn royal blue since they originally phased out the jerseys in 2001.
