Legendary QB Tom Brady Retires, Seahawks Super Bowl Sadness Remembered

Eight years to the date of the saddest heartbreak in Seattle Seahawks history, legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady fittingly announces his retirement.
In this story:

Legendary quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has officially retired from the NFL, he announced on social media Wednesday.

Brady, who quickly came out of retirement last offseason after an original goodbye, says that this time it's "for good."

And with that, the Seattle Seahawks can say good riddance to a quarterback that was a part of one of the greatest Super Bowls of all time, though it simultaneously ended in heartbreak for the 12s.

Brady and the New England Patriots took down the Seahawks 28-24 in Super Bowl XLIX in 2015. Strangely enough, his retirement announcement on Wednesday comes eight years to the day of that game, which saw Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler intercept Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson at the goal line with just seconds left to secure the title.

The Seahawks were looking to secure back-to-back Super Bowls after dominating the Denver Broncos in the previous year. Instead, Brady got to celebrate on the sidelines as his defense ripped Seattle's heart out with one of the best plays in the history of sports.

Coping with that loss has never been easy for Seahawks fans, but maybe Brady's official retirement can come with some measure of closure.
