Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett Reacts To Fan Question About Offensive Quirk
The NFL is typically a lot more complicated than it looks to the average fan.
Those who are in and around the game on a regular basis understand part of it that those who simply watch on TV will rarely see. That includes Seattle Seahawks wideout Tyler Lockett.
Offenses routinely attempt to disguise their packages from defenses while defenses try and hide their blitz packages from quarterbacks.
One curious fan saw film of the Carolina Panthers and noticed something interestig.
"Someone. Anyone. Please explain this to me… All season the #panthers used the G to signal when the ball was coming, which completely ruins any chance of disguising the snap count. A HUGE disadvantage for the OL. Is it because Bryce’s cadence is too quiet?
Lockett saw the questions and replied with is own take on the situation.
"This is all silent cadence. Mostly used for away games. Every team has 2-4 different silence cadence so defenses still have to honor the snap. If defense is jumping snap consistently then you hit them with the double cadence. “Offsides”The game within the game."
Lockett's insight is the kind you can only get from someone closely associated with the game, and in particular, a player who deals with the offenseive schemes on a weekly basis.
