Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett 'Super Excited' to Learn New Offense Amid Trade Rumors
Change is afoot for the Seattle Seahawks and veteran receiver Tyler Lockett is embracing all of it as Ryan Grubb takes over the offense from Shane Waldron.
While the installation of Grubb's offense is in its infancy, Lockett has already hit the ground running and, like his other teammates, has been hard at work in the classroom. This is all happening amid offseason trade rumors surrounding Lockett, which he shut down when speaking to the media on Wednesday.
But based on what Lockett has seen and heard from Grubb over these last few days, the former Washington Huskies offensive coordinator is already making an impression.
“I think when you talk about Ryan, he's a real secure person,” Lockett said. “He understands who he is, the composure [he has] is incredible. He's standing up here, talking about an offense, obviously it's his, but you could tell he respects it and he appreciates it. It's a offense to where you really have to study and you gotta be intellectual to be able to understand it and to be able to learn it.
"It's a lot of memorization, and so I do think it's really cool and I do think it's unique. I do think he has a lot of creative ways, when you listen to him talk you see the game the same way as he sees it. I'm super excited just to be able to kind of like learn from him and just kind of see what he brings to this team.”
With the Seahawks offense looking to have a bounce-back season of sorts in 2024 after not living up to the 2022 standards set last year, Grubb's new-look offense offers a change from how things were done with Waldron.
Geno Smith stated that everything about the offense is different, down to the terminology, so there will be a steep learning curve for the Seahawks, but all are taking it in their stride. Grubb's air-raid offense for the Huskies led them to the National Championship game vs. Michigan last season, a game they would lose (their only loss of the season) after Washington QB Michael Penix Jr.'s superb year.
Many hope that can translate to Geno, who is going into what some think is his last season as the Seattle starter. We know what Smith brings to this team offensively. With the weapons at his disposal that Grubb's system will look to get the best out of, the Seahawks could again be a team that challenges in the NFC.
There is an unknown quality about Seattle in 2024, but with a new head coach and offensive coordinator and a fresh perspective, it's no wonder why Lockett is excited about the journey ahead.
