Seahawks Draft 'Explosive' EDGE Tyree Wilson in Latest Mock
The Seattle Seahawks' decision to trade away Russell Wilson is looking better and better. While the Denver Broncos and Seahawks had polar opposite seasons this past year, the move gave Seattle two first-round picks in the upcoming draft.
Currently holding onto the No. 5 and the No. 20 pick, the Seahawks are in a strong position to knock the draft out of the park while potentially bringing what was once an elite defense back to the top of the NFL ranks.
Georgia Bulldog Jalen Carter is the one who has mostly been touted as the player to be taken, but in the latest mock draft for NFL.com, the Seahawks take a different defensive player with the No. 5 pick.
Seattle takes Texas Tech edge rusher Tyree Wilson in this scenario. Here's what NFL.com had to say:
The Seahawks find themselves in a great spot in this simulation, with two of the three best defensive players still available, Wilson writes. I'm giving them Wilson here simply because he provides explosiveness off the edge, something Seattle has needed for years.
Wilson was a beacon of production for Texas Tech over his last two college seasons. In 23 games, Wilson registered 14 sacks, 62 solo tackles, and 27.5 tackles for loss.
Linebackers Uchenna Nwosu and Darrell Taylor (both 9.5 sacks) led the way for the Seattle defense last season, with Quinton Jefferson adding 5.5 sacks as well. Adding an explosive game-wrecker in Wilson would give Seattle a fearsome defensive front.
The defense has had an overhaul, and with the additions of Bobby Wagner, Devin Bush, Dre'Mont Jones and now potentially Wilson, the Seahawks' defense could be on the way back to being a formidable force again.
