Seahawks 'Motivation' vs. Panthers Runs Deep

The Seattle Seahawks laid an egg in the home season opener, but after defeating the Detroit Lions, D.K. Metcalf says the team is motivated to put on a show for the home fans against the Carolina Panthers.

The Seattle Seahawks steadied the ship after a Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Rams by getting a tough and gritty 37-31 overtime win at Ford Field against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

In the eyes of D.K. Metcalf, getting that type of response after the Week 1 outing showed the type of offense that the unit can be.

“Yes, we played one bad half of offensive football,” Metcalf said. “Just for us to answer and come out and put the amount of points that we did, for Geno [Smith] to have the type day that he did and then the O-line to play the way they did, speaks volumes to the type of the type offense can have and continue to have.”

With the Seahawks now returning home to Lumen Field, there is a want to give the fans what they truly deserve - a proper performance.

Metcalf says that the offense wants to put on a show for the Seahawks fans on Sunday against a Carolina Panthers team that's looking for its first win of the season.

“A lot of motivation,” Metcalf said. “You never want to get beat at home, and if you want to sustain and win in this league, you have to protect your home stadium. Just to get back to square one, the win was nice, but it's time to focus on the Carolina Panthers, a young, hungry team who is going to come in here to find a win of their own.”

This motivation is likely heightened by the fact that the Panthers came into Lumen Field last season and upset the Seahawks in a 30-24 win. That loss nearly proved fatal to Seattle's postseason hopes.

Seattle's season has gotten off to a Jekyll and Hyde start, but with the confidence restored somewhat, the team that many picked to win the NFC West and again go on a deep playoff run has finally woken up.

After getting punched in the mouth against the Rams, Seattle rebounded, and now the Panthers are in their sights. Kickoff on Sunday is set for 1:05 p.m. PT.
