Seahawks LB Jordyn Brooks Set To Return From Injury: ‘Big Deal!'
Seattle Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks was helped off the field back on New Year's Day with what would later be diagnosed as a torn ACL. It would be the first major injury of the former Red Raider and one that was expected to keep him out of football for nine to 12 months.
But as the new season approaches, Brooks will take the field against the division rival Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 10. That's barely eight months after the injury, and even less since surgery.
“I hope we don’t just pass on it like this is not a big deal. That’s an extremely big deal, something that we should definitely applaud, definitely appreciate, definitely acknowledge because that’s not easy having that injury, coming back and being ready for the first game.” Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner said.
Brooks spent his rehab time in Dallas, Texas with teammate Jamal Adams, who was nursing a torn quadriceps tendon, and it clearly went well. The target return date of Sept. 10 was thought to be a possibility when Brooks arrived at training camp this offseason and didn't like the prospect of watching practice from the sidelines.
“It was honestly standing on the sidelines and I’m like, ‘I can’t get comfortable doing this. It’s hard for me to sit here and watch these guys practice,’” Brooks said. “We wanted to be out there.”
The Seahawks will no doubt have Brooks on a snap count early in his return, as Wagner was brought back into the Seattle fold after a year-long sabbatical in Los Angeles partly due to Brooks' injury. But Brooks and the Seahawks are confident in his ability to return to the lineup and stay there.
“Once I’m out there, I don’t see myself coming out,” Brooks said. “I can definitely see myself playing 60 snaps, but at the same time, we all got to be smart. So we’ll see how much I play.”
