For many diehard Seattle Seahawks fans, looking past missing out on the playoffs Sunday was a bit easier with the Washington Huskies set to take on the Michigan Wolverines in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday night.

Instead, it ended up being just more disappointment for 12s that double as Washington fans.

The No. 2 Huskies (14-1) came up short of an undefeated season in a 34-13 loss to No. 1 Michigan (15-0), which used a dominant rushing attack and suffocating defense to stifle Kalen DeBoer's offense.

The loss snapped Washington's 21-game winning streak.

Washington star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. never got comfortable, finishing 27 of 51 passing for 255 yards, one touchdown and two picks.

Michigan running backs Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards combined with 27 carries for 238 yards and four total touchdowns.

While not all Seahawks fans are Washington fans, the connection between the two teams is real. Lumen Field is only about a 12-minute drive south of U-Dub's campus.

Prior to Monday's game, the Seahawks publicly wished Washington good luck on social media.

Additionally, Penix Jr. used Geno Smith's famous "But I Ain't Write Back!" quote after winning the Pac-12 title.

Last month, Smith opened up about his relationship with Penix and praised him amid a successful season.

Sharing Seattle? Geno Praises 'Really Special' Washington QB Penix

“That was awesome,” Smith said. “I got a chance to throw with Mike in the offseason and had a chance to talk to him, he’s a really special player and a special guy. To be able to kind of share Seattle with him is awesome. I love what they’re doing at U-Dub.”

Penix finished second in the Heisman race, but he had Smith's vote.

“I hope he wins it. I think he’s had a great year,” Smith said. “I think when you look at all the candidates, to lead his team to 13-0 and all the great things he’s done throughout the year, he’s got the numbers, he’s got the moments. I think he deserves it.”

The Huskies and Seahawks now both head into the offseason about a day apart from one another.
