Seahawks Officially Sign Rookie RB Zach Charbonnet

The Seattle Seahawks officially signed second-round pick Zach Charbonnet on Tuesday, leaving No. 5 pick Devon Witherspoon as the only rookie still unsigned

The Seattle Seahawks moved one step closer to inking their entire 2023 draft class on Tuesday, signing running back Zach Charbonnet to his rookie deal.

Charbonnet is now officially under contract with Seattle for four seasons, like all rookie deals. The exact terms of the contract have not yet been released, but based on other player's contracts who were picked around the same spot, it's likely to be worth around $7 million in total.

The Seahawks selected Charbonnet at No. 52 overall in the second round of April's draft. He began his college career at Michigan in 2019, but truly broke out after transferring to UCLA in 2021. In two seasons with the Bruins, Charbonnet rushed for 2,496 yards and 27 touchdowns while averaging 6.3 yards per carry.

With Charbonnet now in the fold, Seattle hopes to form a formidable 1-2-punch out of the backfield with him and Kenneth Walker III. Walker, a second-round pick in last year's draft, had an outstanding rookie season with 1,050 yards and nine touchdowns, finishing as an Offensive Rookie of the Year finalist.

With this signing, the Seahawks now have just one more rookie to sign: No. 5 overall pick Devon Witherspoon. In fact, the former Illinois cornerback is the last unsigned rookie in the entire league, not just in Seattle. It's likely only a matter of time before Witherspoon is signed as well, as training camp gets underway this week.

For now, though, the Seahawks can feel good about accomplishing one of the last things on their offseason check list.
