'S***, They Shoulda Traded Me!' Dre'Mont Jones On Move to Seahawks from Broncos

“I mean, s***, they should have just traded me from the jump," Dre'Mont Jones says as he talks about the move from the Broncos to the Seahawks.
In this story:

It's been a long time coming, in his mind. But Dre'Mont Jones is now a wealthy new member of the Seattle Seahawks. ... with some lingering bitterness regarding how things went in his previous stop.

“I mean, s***, they should have just traded me from the jump," Jones said this week in his introductory presser with Seattle media.

What he's referring to, of course, is last offseason's now-infamous trade that Seattle star QB Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. Jones, 26, who was a third-round pick of the Broncos in 2019, indicated that he was flattered to have heard that the Seahawks asked that he be part of that blockbuster.

Instead, Jones spent one more year with the Broncos, who went 5-12 while the Seahawks went to the playoffs.

"I was included in the trade (discussions),'' he said. "Denver said no . . . Denver didn’t pay me my proper respects, so I’m here because they respected me from the jump."

Jones is being "paid his proper respects'' now, as the defensive lineman signed a three-year, $51 million deal as he joined the Seattle franchise in free agency.

Jones recorded 133 tackles, 22 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one interception during his four seasons in Denver, and now the plan is to bring all of that activity to a Seahawks defense that needs fortification upfront.

Jones has totaled at least 5.5 sacks and 30 quarterback pressures in three consecutive seasons. Last season, per Pro Football Focus, he finished 11th in the NFL among defensive linemen with 45 pressures and ranked 10th overall in pass rush win rate, putting him ahead of the likes of Jeffery Simmons, J.J. Watt, and Deron Payne.

"In the long run, Seattle seemed to be the greatest spot to be from a schematic standpoint," Jones said. "I don't know the ins and outs of what I'm going to be doing yet, so I'll wait and see. But with everything going on, Seattle seemed like the best fit."

Yup. Even though it came a year late for Dre'Mont's tastes.
