WATCH: Seattle Seahawks CB Devon Witherspoon Highlights Big Night vs. Giants With Pick-Six
Seattle Seahawks rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon is eliminating all doubt for those who questioned if he was worthy of being the No. 5 overall pick in April's draft.
He was already having a big night in Monday's 24-3 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, but with a little over a minute left in the third quarter, he made the best play of his young career.
With the Giants looking to score at the goal line trailing 14-3, Witherspoon stepped in front of the pass from Daniel Jones and ran it back all the way for a 97-yard interception return touchdown to extend Seattle's lead to 21-3 in the second half.
Take a look:
Prior to the pick, Witherspoon already had six total tackles and two sacks, as he was flying all over the field.
He missed Week 1's loss to the Los Angeles Rams but made his debut in Week 2's overtime win over the Detroit Lions. In Week 4's win over the Carolina Panthers, Witherspoon impressively posted 11 total tackles.
He headed into Monday's game against the Giants already having a nice start to his rookie season, but has clearly topped all that after his first-career NFL touchdown.
Witherspoon talked about his hard-hitting ability prior to the season.
“It’s part of my game that people should realize that I bring to the table," Witherspoon said. "I’m kind of undersized but I just don’t want people to underestimate me thinking ‘Oh he's not that big so he won't hit you.’ That’s a lie. I just try to be as physical as I can be and want to bring a lot of juice.'
He'll look to keep up his hot start to the season as the Seahawks head into the Week 5 bye.
