Seattle Seahawks Outbid Denver Broncos In Sam Howell Trade - Report
The Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos appear to be linked at the hip once again, and with another quarterback at that.
Earlier this month, the Seahawks acquired quarterback Sam Howell from the Washington Commanders for a couple of mid-late-round pick swaps. Reports indicated that the Seahawks fought off multiple teams to land Howell, and according to 9News' Mike Klis, the Broncos were one of those teams.
“We looked at all the quarterbacks,’’ Broncos general manager George Paton told 9News. “Trades, free agents, and it just didn’t work out. We didn’t want to force it with someone who’s not an ideal fit or we have a clear vision for, so the worst thing you can do is force it. We didn’t. We’re not panicked. We don’t play a game until September. We’re still talking to some quarterbacks in free agency and obviously the draft, we’ll look at that.”
Of course, this isn't the first time Seattle and Denver have been connected by a quarterback. In 2022, the Seahawks sent perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson to the Broncos in a blockbuster trade, which has since turned into one of the most-lopsided trades in NFL history.
Wilson looked like a shell of his former self in Denver, even if he improved somewhat in 2023. After two seasons, the Broncos decided that they had had enough, eating an NFL-record $85 million in dead money to release him. Meanwhile, the Seahawks have posted back-to-back winning seasons since the trade and have acquired key players such as Noah Fant and Devon Witherspoon because of it.
It seems that, once again, the Seahawks got the last laugh over the Broncos when it comes to a quarterback.
