Former Player Urging Steelers to Bring Back ILB
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers added a third member to their inside linebacker room this offseason, signing Patrick Queen to a three-year deal. The team currently has four players at the position, and one former linebacker believes they should bring back a fifth.
Terence Garvin pitched the idea on another former Steeler Arthur Moats's podcast, The Arthur Moats Experience, that the Steelers should re-sign inside linebacker Kwon Alexander. The 29-year-old recently posted that he's back on the field rehabbing after tearing his achilles last season.
"Oh man, Pat Queen and Kwon in the same room,” Garvin said. "That’s an explosive little core. You get that (Achilles) healed up. That might not be a bad one to bring back in there. He was playing really well (last year)."
The Steelers' linebacker room currently consists of Queen, Elandon Roberts, Cole Holcomb and Mark Robinson. Holcomb is recovering from ACL surgery - an injury that happened in Week 9, one week before Alexander's. While head coach Mike Tomlin said at the NFL Meetings that the team got a "positive" update on Holcomb's recovery, it's still unknown when he'll return to the field.
Alexander played nine games last season in Pittsburgh, recording one interception, one forced fumble, two pass deflections, one sack, 41 tackles, five tackles for loss and two quarterback hits.
The former first-round pick has dealt with multiple injuries over the years but has continued to return in strong fashion. If the Steelers are looking for another member to their inside linebacker room, they may consider welcoming Alexander back.
