Kameron Kelly, AAF hopeful to expected impact player for the Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers didn't see Kameron Kelly becoming a star when they signed him in April. Today, they're implementing as much of the former undrafted rookie as possible.

When the AAF closed their doors midway through their inaugural season, many of the players believed they had done enough to earn a NFL roster spot. Kameron Kelly was one of them.

Kelly's four interceptions through six games while playing for the San Diego Fleet grabbed the attention of a few NFL teams, but nothing enough to secure a contract. That's when the Pittsburgh Steelers called.

After the rush of AAF signings, Pittsburgh signed Kelly to a minimum salary contract for one-year. Like most of the AAF signings, Kelly was on a try-out basis with a lot to prove.

Through two games, one thing became somewhat clear - Kelly could play in this league. Blending in like Mike Hilton and Cameron Sutton at a number of positions, Kelly began to make plays at both corner and safety.

Enter Week 3. Some people remain skeptical on whether or not Kelly has secured a roster spot. With the emergence of Cameron Sutton, Kelly hasn't guaranteed anything for his NFL future.

Then, the Steelers came out in a three-safety look where Mike Hilton would leave the field and Kelly or Sean Davis would play in the box while Terrell Edmunds played deep. And right there, it became pretty clear Kameron Kelly was a part of the Steelers defense.

A line-of-scrimmage stop on 3rd and 10 and a strip fumble while tackling A.J. Brown during the third quarter, only solidified more that Kelly is going to be a playmaker for this team.

Expect Kelly to be one of the more prominent Steelers on the defensive side of the ball during Week 4 of the Preseason. With one exhibition game remaining, Pittsburgh will look to see if there's anything they missed in their newest safety.

Roste wise, he's made the cut. He'll be on the field more than most expected when they signed him back in April, and as long as he continues to produce the way he has, Kameron Kelly will be a household name for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
