Insider: Steelers Could Trade Up for One Player
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are doing plenty of homework on offensive tackles in the NFL Draft, and it feels as if the position would be their top choice in the first round. But despite names like Amarius Mims and JC Latham being floated around as options at pick No. 20, one team insider says a trade could be on the table.
If the Steelers are sold on a certain player, they could look to make a move for a second year in a row. And according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ray Fittipaldo, the name to watch is Oregon State's Taliese Fuaga.
"The Fuaga name is really intriguing to me," Fittipaldo told 93.7 The Fan. "You see him a lot around the fringe of the top 10, so we might be looking at another trade-up scenario if they want to go get him."
The Steelers brough Fuaga in for a top 30 pre-draft visit and had offensive line coach Pat Meyer at his Oregon State Pro Day. Wildly considered one of the top three offensive tackles in the NFL Draft, it's very unlikely he makes it to 20th overall, but the Steelers may not be afraid to go get him if he gets close enough.
In ESPN's latest mock draft, Fuaga goes 13th to the Las Vegas Raiders. That would be four more picks than what the Steelers moved up last year to get Broderick Jones, going from 17th to 14th. In that trade with the New England Patriots, they gave up a fourth-round pick (No. 120).
