PITTSBURGH -- Rumor had it, Justin Fields was set to wear No. 5 with the Pittsburgh Steelers this season, but now it appears that may not be true. Judging from a cryptic Instagram message the fourth-year quarterback posted on his story, he may be rocking a different number than expected.

Hopefully, before anyone rushed out to buy their Fields No. 5 jersey, the passer dropped a hint that he may have chosen No. 2 instead. After not being able to wear No. 1 due to Pittsburgh's long-running rule against giving out the number, it looks like he went with the closest possible option.

Ironically, the Steelers were hoping they'd have No. 2 on their roster this season either way. All offseason long, general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin spoke about how they hoped to re-sign Mason Rudolph. That didn't happen after they agreed to terms with Russell Wilson, which prompted Rudolph to head to Tennessee, signing a one-year deal with the Titans.

Now, they'll have No. 3 with Wilson and No. 2 with Fields. It's unknown what number Kyle Allen has chosen yet.

As of now, nothing is confirmed. Fields will likely let us know what number he chose during his initial press conference. Until then, it may be best to start custom-making his jersey.
