Report: Justin Fields Jersey Number With Steelers Revealed
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields has a new number with his new team. According to David Kaplan of ESPN 1000 in Chicago, Fields is set to wear No. 5 in Pittsburgh this season.
There wasn't much shot at Fields wearing his original No. 1 jersey with the Steelers as the team has only given out the number six times, the last time being in 1999 by quarterback Anthony Wright. The others were kicker Gary Andersen (1994), kicker David Trout (1981), halfback Merl Condit (1940), halfback Warren Heller (1936) and halfback Andy Zeher (1935).
Since then, it's been about avoiding the number to make sure the message is set to everyone - this is about the team, not one person.
Fields becomes the latest quarterback to rock No. 5 in Pittsburgh, joining Josh Dobbs, Tanner Morgan, Bruce Gradkowski and Terry Hanratty. Fields wore No. 1 throughout his college days at Georgia and Ohio State.
The Steelers new quarterbacks now have their numbers with Wilson wearing No. 3 and Fields No. 5. They'll wait to reveal Kyle Allens during OTAs, setting the new room up with some changes. Last season, it was No. 10, No. 2 and No. 8. It'll be interesting to see if Allen takens any of them.
