PITTSBURGH -- The Detroit Lions are moving on from former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs just before the playoffs. According to NFL Network's Tom Peliserro, the team has waived the former sixth-round pick to make room for a returning defender.

Buggs joined the Lions last season after his release from the Steelers in 2021. He played 27 games since then, including 16 starts. This season, he played 10 games and started three, recording 12 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery.

The move will free up a roster spot for defensive tackle Alim McNeill, who is set to return from Injured Reserve in time for Week 18's game. McNeill spent four weeks on IR after suffering a knee sprain.

Buggs spent three seasons with the Steelers, playing 29 games, including seven starts for Pittsburgh. He had 31 tackles during his time with the Steelers.
